What We've Accomplished Together

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

As we start a new year, we'd like to share with you a review of things we've accomplished together. We've been working hard to bring the benefits of the urban forest to the neighborhoods that need and want them most.

The following accomplishments from our last fiscal year (July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022) show why Friends of the Urban Forest is among the most respected and effective non-profit environmental organizations in the Bay Area.

Tree Planting and Care

The trees we plant provide vital benefits for the environment, wildlife, and the people who live and work here. Our commitment to environmental justice guides us to focus our planting efforts on areas with low to no tree canopy. We water young trees and provide follow-up care for three years to ensure that our trees have the best chance to reach healthy maturity.

Community-Based Planting Model

We connect people with nature and each other by bringing neighborhood residents and volunteers together to make San Francisco greener. As a result, neighborhoods are not only greener, they’re more resilient.

Sidewalk Gardens

Sidewalk gardens beautify neighborhoods, create a natural habitat for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, reduce stormwater runoff, and increase the lifespan of adjacent trees.

Workforce Development

We're multigenerational stewards of the land. Our Green Teens and Green Crew programs offer youth and adults the opportunity to steward the urban landscape while developing job skills to thrive in their careers.

Community Engagement

We work in partnership with the communities we serve to grow trees and gardens. Long before a planting day, our Community Engagement team is getting to know the needs and concerns of the people and organizations in that neighborhood.
